As we motored along the road leading to Padstow, I was in awe of the countryside – with its rolling hills, hedgerows and wildflowers galore, it was even prettier than I had imagined.

Yotam Ottolenghi waxed lyrical about the milk puddings of the Middle East in an episode of his television series, Jerusalem on a Plate. During a scene where YO bought a cup of malabi from a street vendor then devoured it, Peter looked my way and said ‘That sounds so good, you must make it for us!’ The jet lag from our adventure lingers, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and whenever I feel like tucking into bed for a nanna nap, I remind myself of the 'KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON' message on a fridge magnet that we picked up in London. Sage advice to push through and get back to the land of the living asap, methinks. Caramelised mandarins combine so well with ricotta, currants and a splash of Grand Marnier in this baked ricotta ‘cake’ – another of my kedvenc or favourite desserts. But then I do love anything baked with ricotta or cottage cheese. And mandarins are up there with my favourite fruits too. Renowned writer and film maker, Susan Sontag (1933-2004), once said 'I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list.' |
