'Dear Liz, this is your invitation to BAKE! ❤ Anneka.' reads the delightful inscription penned on the first page of my review copy of Anneka Manning's Bake, Eat, Love. Oh my! Baking is such a pleasurable past time and of my favourite things now I'm retired, so I'm with you, Anneka.
‘I was sitting in a café in Hanoi watching the world go by,’ chef Luke Nguyen explains as he pours a cup of caramel-coloured Vietnamese coffee. ‘There were people exercising: doing Tai Chai, playing badminton and kicking around a bamboo shuttlecock. And next to me on these little stools were a pair of old men with long, silver beards. They were wearing scarves and berets--and, to my surprise, were speaking fluent French. I thought “wow, this is a great experience” and I wanted to speak to them and find out what life was like in the days of the late 1800s to 1954 during the French occupation.'
'Our family of seven ... lived in a wooden house built by my father — its stained glass windows greeted anyone who approached the front door. Drinking water came straight from the sky and into our tank, fruit and vegetables were grown in the traditional way and we collected raw goat's milk from a farm at the end of our winding gravel road, both to drink and make yoghurt. Looking back, it seems like a fairy-tale, but it's exactly the life I now want to give my own two children.'

In 2010, Callum Hann nabbed second place in series two of MasterChef Australia and despite being just 20 years old, he wowed the judges — and viewers at home, myself and Peter included — with his exceptional cooking skills as well as his genuinely delightful personality! Callum is the founder of Sprout Cooking School in Adelaide and is now travelling around Australia sharing his love of food and cooking with young people all over the country. His second cookbook, I'd Eat That!, has just been released and I greatly enjoyed my conversation with Callum about his book, and food and cooking in general. Read our conversation here.
'I am absolutely in love with the south of Italy. It really is the soul and the spirit of the country. I’m talking about Siciliy, Campania of which Naples if the capital, Basilicata, Puglia, those sorts of areas, around the boot, the heel, the instep… and Sicily of course, the island down the bottom. In terms of food and wine, over the last twenty years I have made a personal discovery of those areas and I really can’t get enough of them.'
