Sponsored postTo celebrate the return of Luke Nguyen's France to SBS ONE on Thursday, 17 July at 7.30pm, SBS is giving Good Things readers the chance to WIN a fabulous Luke Nguyen DVD prize pack. In episode 9, which screens on Thursday, 17 July, Luke continues his journey around the oyster island of d'Oléron before exploring the food traditions of the Loire Valley. He can’t stop talking about the infamous hot oyster with local restaurateur, James. Luke is reminded of his childhood through his forages for clams with local fishermen Patrick and John. A break-wall is as good as anywhere to cook up a fusion clam feast. Luke discovers some of the magic of the Loire Valley, when he cooks a sumptuous rabbit dish in the cellar of an old chateau with owner Sebastian. Together they share a glass of wine, some freshly baked bread and a sing-a-long with local fisherman, before Luke unearths the troglodyte fine dining scene. And finally, in episode 10, which screens on Thursday, 24 July, Luke experiences life and food on the Loire River before finishing his culinary journey through France in the seaside town of Saint Malo. Luke traps an eel with local fisherman, Bruno, before cooking up one of his signature dishes on Bruno’s houseboat. He spends his last night in the Loire cooking a rustic roast duck dish by an open fireplace. Heading to St Malo, a town of pirates and seafood delights, Luke catches giant crabs with local fisherman Gill. Over the provincial border in Normandy, where Mont Saint-Michel looms large, Luke shares his knowledge of salt marsh lambs. Back in Saint Malo, he meets with larger-than-life character Jean Yves, a third generation butter specialist, and cooks a delicious scallop dish. I have had the pleasure of previewing the entire series, dear readers, and must tell you that I greatly enjoyed it. Looking back at his wonderful experiences travelling through France, Luke muses: 'If there is a more beautiful place on earth, I can’t wait to see it!' I have been missing my foodie fix on SBS, don't get me wrong, I do like a little bit of sport, but I implore you , bring back Luke! I have been following his journey through France, loving the history, scenery and food of course. I have always wanted to experience France since Year 10 French cultural experience taught by the enigmatic Monsieur Menanteau's! I would love to cook Comte Cheese in the same spot Luke demonstrated along with a good bottle of ssb! Those beef pastry snails looked awesome too! And how can I forget Vietnam? My daughter has been there, my niece is there now, a place I would also love to experience, and again, feel the connection between family, culture and food. Luke nicely ties the links between both cultures together with sensitivity and respect!

Oh, I am afraid I do agree with Andrea, as I have missed the 'food porn' Thursday on SBS also and am so looking forwards to Luke's return. I honestly love all his SE Asian recipes but make his Hue lemongrass pork and beef skewers most often! No paddy frogs available :) !

Reading thru' some of the interesting comments, perhaps some readers have not noticed that it is a '50 words or less' competition! Some lovely ones are way longer!! [Hmm, counted up to 49 for mine about three times :) ! 10/7/2014 03:53:56 pm
Hmmm... I'm not really a big TV watcher, so I havent really followed this series. Ooops... I know, poor form for a foodie. Wishing all your lucky readers much luck. Happy Weekend to you lovely Liz. xxx 10/7/2014 06:56:52 pm
Hi Liz; this is indeed a wonderful giveaway. I have been watching many episodes of Luke's French journey and it has been an educative experience especially knowing the connection between French and Vietnamese cuisine. Understanding the culture and tradition of a cuisine is an enriching experience because it helps you understand and cook better. 10/7/2014 08:26:13 pm
I've been to St Malo...I love French Atlantic coast. I'm sure he found some beautiful places there... 10/7/2014 09:18:04 pm
What a great prize. Good luck to everyone! :D 11/7/2014 12:39:49 am
What a great give away. I've cooked from Luke and Pauline's book Red Lantern quite a lot and loved everything I've made from it. 12/7/2014 11:07:46 am
I love that last comment - that is there happens to be a more beautiful place he'd love to see it. So would I. This is a great series but I just can't think what my favourite 'Luke' recipe is xx 13/7/2014 06:11:06 pm
Being the owner of a tour business that includes France, it's actually essential that I win this prize, for work purposes of course! My favourite dish from memory would be the bird he cooked on a bridge in Alsace, with all those Asian spices, can't recall the name of the recipe which is exactly why I need to win the prize!

Totally agree with you Eha! I get carried away with words! I'm with you though, totally want to eat the beef lemongrass skewers! My niece, who is currently honeymooning in Vietnam, posted a pic, and my mouth drooled!

Oh so do I and how - with words I mean :) ! Hope you will get to Vietnam one day to eat, eat, eat and that you are lucky in the competition! My actual fave was the paddy frogs recipe in which Luke both caught and most wonderfully cooked frogs in/next to rice paddies [methinks?!!] for the workers - would not have liked to catch, but so loved the recipe: 50 words not enough to describe :D !!

I love Luke Nguyens Warm mango and prawn salad and also his Green mango salad with tiger prawns, I'm a prawn addict and his recipes do them so much justice 22/7/2014 10:18:44 pm
I love all of Luke's recipes. I first fell in love with him when he mentored on Masterchef many years ago, where he made a chilli crab with a green mango salad. The mixture of sweet, sour, salt & spice (hot) made me fall in love with all Asian cuisine.

My Chinese mother in law is always teasing me about my poor cooking skills, so one family dinner I served up Luke’s “Lucky Red Braised Pork Belly”. My mother in law was suitably impressed, even joking, “Are you sure you didn’t buy this?!” Saved, until the next family dinner! Comments are closed.
