'Life's just too short not to celebrate with moments and tastes that make you close your eyes and smile,' writes Anna Gare in the introduction to her new cookbook, Delicious Every Day. Fist pump from me, folks. I'm in full agreement with her philosophy that 'every day should be delicious'. Ms Gare, who says she has been obsessed with food since making mud pies in the sandpit as a toddler, has managed a catering business, cooked on television, been a presenter at various festivals, and championed some of Western Australia's greatest food regions - the Swan Valley and Margaret River. Like me, she has collected more than her share of recipes for delicious everyday meals, but has narrowed them down to a hundred or so to share within this latest book. I love that she writes that the thing they have in common is big flavours that 'make your tastebuds do a little interpretive dance' that makes you go back for more. The first chapter is Begin with Brekkie; followed by Heartwarming Soups; Salads as the Main Attraction; Salads to Share; Simple Sides; Quick Weeknight Meals; One-Pot Meals; Weekend Dinners; Party Tricks; Sweet and Nice; and Sweet and Naughty. The recipes are easy to follow and focus on fresh produce and great ingredients. I've already made the bircher muesli with apple, strawberries and roasted hazelnuts. Yum! With pineapples in plentiful supply, I have earmarked the gluten free crepes and grilled pineapple with lime and orange syrup. With its vibrant colour, the green pea soup also caught my eye, as did the fresh fast pho. Peter has asked me to try the beef rendang with coconut and cucumber salsa, as well as the slow-roasted ocean trout with orange, lime and chilli relish. The chocolate date nut torte will be the first cake I make when we finish dieting. And I cannot wait to try the Breaking Bad flan. Delicious Every Day by Anna Gare, Murdoch Books, $39.99. Thank you kindly to the publicity team at Murdoch Books for giving me the opportunity to review this title. Dip into the pages of the book and sample a few of the recipes here.
