Market days...

3/9/2015

'On market days the squares are piled high with garlic and onions and every sort of vegetable and fruit.  The people shout, throw things, scuffle, laugh and sing all day long.'
                                                                        — literary genius J.W. Goethe, in his Italian Journey (1786-88).

Bernal Diaz and Cortes had never seen such a great and orderly market as the one in Tlaltelolco in 1519. Merchants used to come from all around the Mexico City's region. The Aztec Exhibiton in the Australian Museum in Sydney is holding a scale model of the market. I visited last Monday and was very impressed!
