Brenden May tells me that he has been growing spuds with his dad since he was a boy. He grows Pontiac, Sebago and Atlantic potatoes at his farm at Forest Reefs, which is located between Orange and Blamey.
“We grow the Atlantics purely for the snack brands, so they’re the potato crisps you might buy. Our Pontiac and Sebago spuds that we sell here are the markets are the good all rounders, the Pontiacs being the sweeter ones”, he says.
Brenden sells his potatoes at the Capital Region Farmer’s Market in Canberra. Pontiacs are available from February through to June, and the Sebago from June to December. There's a VIP card, so once you've bought nine of the ten kilo bags, the tenth one is free.
Farmers and growers, artisan producers, and wonderful providores.
