Good Things Favourites Easter 2014

Seven little nests of hay
We have made, for Easter day
Is to-morrow, and you know
We must have them ready, so
When the Rabbit comes she'll see
We expected her, that we
Children tried our very best
Each to make the nicest nest.

Easter Eggs by Evaleen Stein (1863-1923)

Apparently it's Easter this weekend and yet somehow I feel I might have just missed the bus in 2014. I'm not sure I've quite caught my breath after having been away for a few days in Orange, New South Wales, for the F.O.O.D. Week events. After a four hour drive home, we called into the store just five minutes from home so that I could get some milk and a few bits and pieces. I also bought a couple of beautifully-decorated dark chocolate eggs and that's about where I'm at with Easter preparations. So, rather than rushing to bake something and photograph it so that I could share it with you, I thought I'd gather a few of my favourite blog posts from recent weeks. Some are topical and delicious, in that they are about making chocolates or Easter baking, others just caught my attention as good things. I've included a couple of my own archived recipes too. I hope you will find them inspiring:

  • Butterscotch chocolate meringue bars from Javelin Warrior
  • Sweet rice or meetha chawal from Kiran Taran
  • Apple and cinnamon hot cross buns from Milk and Honey
  • Devilled egg chicks from Not Quite Nigella
  • Easter dove bread or Colomba di pasqua from Adri Barr Crocetti
  • Easter chocolates from Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial
  • Raw apricot, dark chocolate and coconut bites from My Darling Lemon Thyme
  • Hot cross Easter buns a la Lizzy
  • My mother's Walnut torte by Lizzy
  • Neapolitan Wheatberry and Ricotta Easter cake by Emiko Davies on Food 52
  • Easter memories by Maureen from The Orgasmic Chef
  • Amazing-looking spinach feta muffins from Dr Ola's Kitchen
  • A recipe for Lamb Shank and Prune pies by Rob and Sophia Palmer (Colour of Maroc), featured on Food Wine Travel
  • The winners of Saveur's best food blog awards
  • And finally, an excellent post by Fiona from Tiffin Bite Sized Adventures on ethical blogging and 'Drawing the Line'

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful, happy and safe Easter weekend. Thank you for your continued friendship and support of this little journal. I really do appreciate you stopping by. Lizzy xox

Tell me, what are your favourite things to bake or do over the Easter weekend?

Yeah, Easter snuck up on me, too! But thank goodness all I needed to do was buy a few chocolates for my grown kids...plus a ham for dinner. I'll have to peruse all your links for some inspiration. Happy Easter!! xo

Thanks for the link love Liz. Easter was on top of me before I knew it this year - school holidays will do that to you. Loving the other links too.

I'm glad I'm not the only one behind with Easter preparations, Liz. :-) We're keeping things very simple around here too. I love your beautifully painted egg. :-)

Loved the dove bread and reading through Maureen's Easter memories - and of course, Lorraine always comes up with the best easy ideas. I'm honored to be included and I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend (even if it has snuck up on you)!

Easter came WAY too quickly this year for me too - that little bunny just hopped right in. Thank you so much for including me in your Easter Bounty! I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

I am glad Easter is here as it also brings far more clement weather and rain to Melbourne, and in many ways, it signifies a fresh start. One beautifully decorated egg is worth more than a hundred commercial chocolate eggs. Happy Easter Lizzie.

I am so with you on that last thought, Francesca. I do hope you enjoyed a peaceful and delicious Easter. Thanks for popping in xo : )

Happy Easter Liz! I love Easter, it's always my first pit stop for the year. I can sleep till I wake, no alarm clocks for a week, the hot cross buns from bundah bakery, oh and the family time.

Lizzy

Anna, that sounds delicious! I do hope you enjoyed a peaceful and delicious Easter. Thanks for popping in xo : )

Easter usually sneaks up on me, I guess primarily because it's a moveable feast. Great list of good stuff! I'll be checking out all the goodies .;-)

If you do keep Easter: my very best! If it is a holiday: have a good one :) ! Love your painted egg and 'thank you' for all the links! Am actually copying Lorraine's cute 'devilled eggs' for 3-4 elderly neighbours to get a laugh on Sunday! hugs and good wishes . . .

I know exactly how you feel. I wasn't into Easter this year either. I did make two Easter baskets for the ancient ones. That will be it for me. I'll go take some photos. :)

Happy Easter, my friend and thanks for including me!

Have a lovely Easter Lizzy. I have missed the boat this year entirely. Tomorrow our daughter and family is coming over bringing Greek takeout. Then that's that for Easter. Just resting and watching videos in the evenings. Easter is a 4 day weekend for civil servants in Canada. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Aren't we lucky?

Lizzy

Greek takeout sounds perfect, Zsuzsa! Yes, we have a four day weekend here too. I do hope you enjoyed a peaceful and delicious Easter. Thanks for popping in xo : )

I'm exactly like you. I just was so consumed by Archie's party that once the dust settled, it was almost Good Friday. I've done nothing! I will get up tomorrow and make Hot Cross Buns and I will go to the shops and buy some eggs and I do hope there'll be something decent left still to buy. I do have the food sorted though - we won't starve! xx

Oh I have been such a slack Easter Bunny this year. Never mind, the kids now have a chocolate tummy ache so all is right with the world.
Love your beautiful Easter Eggs, just amazing :)
