'If some exquisite little goddess of gluttony were to exist, her name would surely be Vanilla, and she would be a delicate, slim creature in a dress sparkling with tiny perfumed crystals.' There are some ingredients that my kitchen is rarely without. Lemons, peppercorns and vanilla beans, among them. When it comes to their aroma and flavour, they all fall into the category of 'exquisiteness', don't you agree? To ensure that I don't run out, in my larder, there's a bundle of 70 plump and shiny, first-quality Heilala Vanilla beans that I bought online. Heilala has plantations in Tonga and Tauranga, New Zealand; and is the only ‘plantation to pantry’ vanilla on the globe. The company offers a range of 100% pure vanilla products to home cooks, chefs and food manufacturers (such as Pierre Issa from Pepe Saya). The vanilla syrup would be great to use in a rich trifle for Christmas dessert, drizzle a bit over the sponge before layering.

Unfortunately I have not tried Heilala products either Lizzy. But, if I had the opportunity I might try the vanilla syrup on a bowl of icecream. Yum! This is a very generous giveaway, thank you for the opportunity! 12/12/2012 01:52:31 pm
i must look out for this range - it would be exquisite to see that in my pantry! i am intrigued by the vanilla powder - for dusting on pretty little fairy cakes, i assume? that's a new one to me as i only have paste and extract in my pantry (sadly not heilala). 12/12/2012 06:27:39 pm
I love vanilla beans as they are so versatile. Once used I keep them in my sugar jar to add a bit of extra flavour. Not tried the paste but only heard great things.

I would normally put a split vanilla bean in a jar of caster sugar, shake it every few days, and use it on scones and pancakes and such. I see that the Heilala pack has Pure Vanilla Organic Sugar. I think I'd like to try their "rim of the cocktail glass" suggestion. Decadent!

I think the vanilla syrup would make a yummy vanilla milkshake. Some of the vanilla paste would go into the homemade ice cream for the milkshake if I was being really decadent! 12/12/2012 10:31:46 pm
Yum - delicious giveaway! As much as I like vanilla beans I do adore the paste for a quick and easy way to add stacks of flavour to pretty much anything. The first thing I'd make with the prize - a ridiculously rich vanilla & raspberry no-churn ice cream! Have a wonderfully festive holiday season. xx 13/12/2012 06:41:50 am
I think the vanilla sryup would be amazing drizzled into some yummy iced eggnog this time of year! Perfect for Christmas indeed :) 13/12/2012 08:01:44 am
Ever since I saw Maria Elia making this, a few weeks ago, I've been wanting to try it. I would use one of the vanilla pods to make a vanilla oil (it takes a few weeks to for the flavours to maximise) then use it in a crab, fennel and porcini salad.

I love the flavours and aroma of real vanilla with almost anything: to dust over fruit, both raw and cooked; to drink in tea; to perfume baked goods; to float through my home as the scent of candles; to press between my sheets for blissful sleep. And yet, while I've become passionate about the many ways I can use the new processed products , I always have the elegant fragrant beans in the pantry ready for anything any time

Vanilla beans, one of those luxuries I can rarely afford, I would love them to make some real vanilla ice-cream, my stuff would be cream in colour and have specks of black in it unlike the fake white stuff from the supermarket.

Heilala Vanilla paste, perfect in my homemade icecream and the rich, sweet flavour will enhance the deliciousness of any dessert I create using it. 15/12/2012 10:59:52 pm
I'd place a vanilla pod/bean into my sugar jar so that when I bake or put sugar in my tea, it will have an aromatic vanilla taste and smell! Perfect for Christmas and indulging in the New Year!

The Heilala Vanilla Baking Pack would be an EXQUISITE gift for my sister for Christmas. However, it's just too lovely to give away! I would share by using the vanilla in the custard I am making for my pudding Christmas Day. It will be the secret ingredient that will leave my family craving more!

A lush plump vanilla bean used to poach peaches and then a drizzle of pure cream infused with vanilla paste.... But so many ingredients "lift" with vanilla it's hard to choose just this one!

I love pressing halved summer stone fruit into vanilla sugar and then put them in the BBQ for the sugar to melt and caramelise. For the extra vanilla goodness I'd put the vanilla syrup through some whipped cream to serve.

I would LOVE to use that vanilla syrup in a topping for my pound cake, and also a bit in my coffee!! 16/12/2012 12:13:12 pm
Simple is often best - I love vanilla sugar for sprinkling over pastries, biscuits, cakes etc when baking. Simply leave a pod in a jar (glass, with a good lid) full of sugar and voila, vanilla-flavoured sugar is the result! And you can't beat good quality vanilla extract (rather than the fake stuff) for flavouring pavlovas and meringues. Always have to make a big vanilla-flavoured pav for son's birthday on Christmas Day! I absolutely love the vanilla bean paste. It smells heavenly and I think I would just use it to wake me up in the morning! I wish! I use it in almost everything to give a delicious vanilla kick. I would love to try using the vanilla sugar to make a crunchy munchy top on my muffins and crumbles, or to make a more vanillary snickerdoodle cookie. Yum! 16/12/2012 02:43:55 pm
My sweet tooth is aching for some vanilla syrup. I'd like to use it to lightly poach some strawberries with a touch of lemon zest and a hint of black pepper. Then I would use them to top a pavolova with plenty of thick cream (also with a touch of vanilla) and drizzle a little more syrup over each slice.

Vanilla has an exquisitely unique fragrance and flavour and is so versatile in all things sweet (cakes, biscuits, custards, icecream, tea, fruit) and I am told also sensational in savoury dishes, especially pork and lobster (though I've not had the opportunity to try, yet).

I know most kids love chocolate, but my boys choose vanilla icecream and vanilla cupcakes every time! The Heilala vanilla syrup, paste and extract would all be perfect for my little helpers to throw into the icecream-maker or into the mixing bowl the next time we make cupcakes (not that much of the mixture makes it into the oven!).

Just love to add a vanilla bean to my extremly slow cooked poached pears. Cooked slow and low until they are a beautiful autumn gold. Served with a little cream with vanilla extract added is delicious.
