In My Kitchen - November 2011Inspirational blogger, Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial features a monthly segment titled 'In My Kitchen', where fellow bloggers from across the miles allow readers to peek into their kitchens. Such a great concept and I'm really excited that I get to play too! Thanks so much, Celia, for welcoming me. In a perfect world, I could easily spend most of every waking day in my kitchen, just pottering and cooking. The rest of the time would be divided between food shopping at farmer's markets, vegetable gardening, cycling, reading and sleeping (with Peter at my side for all of these, of course). Peter is a great taste tester and he would be very pleased indeed if I spent more time in my (our) kitchen, for there would be so many more good things for him to sample. In fact, he is looking forward to our retirement in a few years time for this very reason. Hmm, perhaps I should consider allocating a little more time to cycling in planning for our dream retirement, so we can be well fed, yet svelte and fit all at once! This pictorial vignette gives you an insight into my kitchen this month. I have been quite a Bizzy Lizzy. Lizzy, thanks so much for playing! How wonderful to see all the treasures in your kitchen! I love your photos, particularly the gorgeous roses and garlic, and those green peppercorns bring back happy memories. I remember having that exact same tin in my cupboard nearly twenty years ago - it was one of the first "cool" foods I ever bought! :)

Celia, thank you! Your blog, your gardening and cooking are such an inspiration. I hadn't seen that brand of green peppercorns before. I usually seek out another brand from a local gourmet store/deli. Thanks again for having me over. Lizzy xox 25/11/2011 06:30:14 pm
I really ought to get a can of those green peppercorns to make a gravy for my favourite piece of rib eye steak.

I would love to try that cordial. Are you able to buy it if you live interstate (qld)?

Hi Glenda, I will ask Len Mancini to contact you! Thanks for popping in.
A nice peek inside your kitchen Lizzy. I like the look of the blood orange cordial.

Hi Barb, you are welcome in my kitchen any time, please visit! I imagine it would be difficult to keep fruit on the bench in the humidity and heat. A lot of the time I keep extra in the fridge and just put a few things on the platter. There are always lemons and tomatoes there too. I keep them at room temperature. I add a few drops of bleach to the vase, it keeps the flowers fresh for longer.

Hi Shelley, aren't they just! So elegant, and not expensive. I cannot wait until Christmas holidays, when fruit is cheap (and I have more time on my hands), to cook some preserves from it. LOL, I am actually thinking of enquiring about joining the CWA, there would be so much to learn from those talented ladies! 27/11/2011 11:36:00 pm
A woman after my own heart. My goodness how gorgeous are those roses! I love blood orange 'anything'. Two months ago when in Italy, I drank blood orange drinks to eating blood orange cake. All the time! Loved it. I couldn't help noticing your new books. I posted my new purchases "In My Kitchen" too. I have the CWA preserves cookbook. It' wonderful. I love anything CWA and have this longstanding ambition to join them one day. It's nice to meet you. Mariana.
