When the mother bird returns to her brood / beak squirming with winged breakfast / a shrill clamor rises like jingling from tiny, high-pitched bells. Just a quick but rather delightful (methinks) postcard this weekend. Peter and I were pegging freshly washed sheets onto our clothesline, which is near the Jasmine vines I wrote about recently. Just then a baby fairy wren made it's maiden flight from the nest and landed on the path at our feet. Peter tiptoed into the house to get our cameras and came right back, by which time the little cotton ball of feathers had clumsily flown up to the washing line. As I zoomed in for a close up, it gently flew towards me and landed on the Canon point and shoot in my hands! Peter was swift in capturing a shot before the little one flew onto the vines near the fence. The parent birds were darting back and forth, chirping anxiously, and then the daddy blue wren appeared with 'a winged breakfast' in the form of a moth. A wondrous moment that I simply had to share. Tell me, do you enjoy the wildlife in your garden? Share your stories and links to any photos or posts here.

Thanks Krista... Peter was quite taken by the little birdie too. Actually he always points out the wrens now. I love animals too, except the cat in the neighbourhood that toilets in my kitchen garden.

Oh Liz: have just 'travelled back' from a blogfriend on a farm in Illinois, where magic is happening twixt an Aussie blue heeler and three tiny kittens he has adopted! And reaching home I find these absolutely lovely pics of a family of wrens raising their one! Hmm, out here in the bush we seem to be overblessed by the big and the noisy and mynahs who do not always have the most equable temperament :) ! Thank you for yours!!!!

Oh my, that is cuteness overload!! What a gorgeous moment, how lucky that Peter had another camera to capture the moment! We have a Bohemia tree that attracts lorikeets, never fails to make me smile when I see them visit at the same time every day like clockwork!

I always feel like I've witnessed a miracle when I've had the privilege of catching the moment of a live birth or bird leaving the nest kind of event -- it's that sliver of time that is fleeting and rare. There were many mornings sitting on my deck this summer that I watched the comings and goings of so many birds. It brought me such delight. What a sweet baby wren, what a precious moment to savor. :)

It was amazing, Maureen, and so unexpected! One moment we were looking at each other, the next thing the little one landed on the camera! So sweet. Lovely Lizzy. I love watching baby birds take their first flight. We once had one in our garden who didn't do too well and couldn't fly again for a couple of days. Mum and dad watched over the bub until all was well again and it gathered the strength and skills to try again. We were so happy when it eventually took off.

What an unexpected delight! I love it when things like this happen and you were so fortunate to be able to capture the moment. I had a kookaburra visit last week but alas, it was gone before I could switch the camera on! xx
