If I had a month of Sundays to spare, I'd most certainly spend more time in Sydney, investigating all that this vibrant Australian city offers in terms of food, curiosities, scenery and people.

I'm sharing with you a few postcards and morsels from our recent visit to Sydney and surrounding region. Enjoy.

Food...

Picture
Morsels from just some of our food adventures: Red Lily Bar tucked away in the rear of Red Lantern on Riley, superb banana and blueberry cake at Palms Cafe Stanwell Park, Harry's Cafe Sydney, King prawns wrapped in kataifi pastry with lemon & dill aioli at Georges, soft shell crab at Zushi in Surry Hills, and seafood basket at Bombora at Wollongong (note, we did eat plenty of salads too!)

Curiosities...

Picture
I'm always on the lookout to take snapshots of things of beauty and curiosity: Chinese garden of friendship at Darling Harbour, Flower statue Chinatown, frangipani flowers, old wheel at Robertson, Surry Hills terraces, milk urn and suitcase on rooftop, door leading to nowhere in Surry Hills laneway, The Hobbit at IMAX, corrugated wall and vintage bath at Robertson, and vintage door handle in Leichardt

Markets...

Fame...

Scenery...

Tell me, have you spent time in Sydney, perhaps you live there? Did you manage to catch a glimpse of the giant rubber duck at Darling Harbour? What's your favourite thing about Sydney and surrounds?

This is great Lizzy, I adore that rubber duck! So much vibrancy and so many good things. The pig door handle really caught my eye. Surry Hills is one of my favourite places.

I have only visited Sydney a few times as an adult and each time I have tried to cram so many things in. One highlight was a very early morning visit to the wholesale food and flower markets, it was slightly overwhelming but certainly worth the effort!

Thanks for sharing your highlights with us!

Thanks Jane. I love Sydney, to visit, that is. Would love to spend lots of time just wandering around discovering all the wonderful things. Helps to have my friend, Karen @VanityFare1 who has taken us to some marvellous places!

I've done an early morning tour of the wholesale fruit and veg and flower markets with the amazing Sue Dodd!

Dear Lizzy,

I didn't even realise there's a Madam Tussauds in Sydney. The one place I always bring overseas visitors to is the Sydney Fish Market which never fails to impress, we are truly lucky to be such a seafood mecca.

Hello... the fish market is amazing, I've been there on numerous occasions, but this visit didn't allow time for that one. Loved the waxworks! Great fun.

And so much more to investigate!

I saw the big duck when I was in town this week - he's not more famous than the Opera House + Harbour Bridge combined.

Lizzy

He's not more famous or is more famous? He was pretty special!!!

I've been to most of those places but I didn't get to see the duck. What a wonderful post this is Lizzy. I could happily follow you around anywhere you wanted to go. :)

Thank you Maureen! The duck was such fun! Come join me, my friend and bring your John! ; D

Absolutely love the remembrance photos: lived in Sydney, Bellevue Hill/Darling Point way for over three decades and kind'of know the place . . . Hmmm, I must be the only person in the ruddy world who is still trying to make sense why one would spend money on the rubber ducky . . . oh well, we are all individuals . . .

Hello there... I am glad to have brought back some memories for you. We thought the duck was fun! It certainly brought colour (yellow) to Darling Harbour! ; D

You are making me yearn for sun more than I already am! Gorgeous photo essay and travel pointers

Lizzy

Thank you, Kellie. Oh, I know what you mean about yearning for the sun. We had such a long and bitterly cold winter, I was craving the sunshine. Hence, we took a four day weekend to Darwin, in Australia's northern territory mid year. While it is searingly hot here at present, almost to the point that you could pass out if you stayed outdoors too long at 5pm, which seems to be the hottest part of the day (!!!) I am not complaining for a second.

Thanks for stopping by. ; )

Hi Liz
Looks like you had a great time. It appears that yellow duckie is very popular.

Hi Glenda... Darling Harbour has a number of interesting eateries and retail outlets, as well as the tourist attractions, such as the waxworks. But the duck was really fun!

Hi LIzzy luv this lovely blog about Sydney and the fantastic pictures you took.
Glad you managed to make it to #BondiFarmers Market its open every Saturday at Bondi Beach Public School. Small but terrific stalls, our Janette runs the @Country_Valley dairy stall. I went for a visit myself to #Bondi whilst I was on holidays and the locals are so friendly they love to chat too.
The Yellow Rubber Duckie sure is a hit, took my 2 grandkids to see it they were so excited. The harbour in Sydney always sparkles too. Lizzy you certainly have a gift of finding the cutest things to take pictures of. I sure did love our dinner at The Red Lantern on Riley - that is a must do desination for anyone visiting Sydney.
Take Care and thanks - Ester
